Buhl grants: In excess of $9,000,000 since 1939
In 1939, the Foundation built and opened the Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science on Pittsburgh's North Side. That Buhl legacy now continues inside the Carnegie Science Center with the Buhl Digital Dome, a high-definition projection system that combines science, entertainment and technology. Read More

These WQED documentaries produced by Rick Sebak may be the finest tools for promoting Pittsburgh and the surrounding region that have ever been created. As important, the Pittsburgh History Series has been a significant source of revenue for WQED, a valued nonprofit for the Pittsburgh community. Read More
Buhl grant: $3,000,000 over 10 years
The Pittsburgh Promise is a major undertaking by Pittsburgh Public Schools, the City of Pittsburgh, UPMC, the foundation community and a host of other supporters to raise $250 million to provide $40,000 scholarships for each graduate of Pittsburgh Public Schools who achieves at least a 2.5 grade point average.
